Why Handling Matters: Oils and Petal Damage
Every flower must be handled with the utmost care. Touching petals with bare hands can transfer oils from your skin, which may not be visible immediately but will become apparent when sealed in resin, causing darkened or blotchy spots. This is why I handle flowers delicately and always wear gloves when necessary.
Colour and Shape Changes During Preservation
Flowers do not remain exactly as they were when fresh. Here's what to expect:
- Colour Shift – Bright colours like red, purple, and pink deepen, while pastels may become more muted.
- Shape Changes – Some flowers, particularly those with thin petals, may curl or shrink slightly.
- Natural Imperfections – Some minor discolourations or become translucent as part of the process.
To combat these changes, I use premium silica gel, which is **recharged after every single use** to maintain its highest effectiveness.
